A cataract is a cloudiness that has developed within the lens of the eye. As the cloudiness increases patients will experience blurring of vision.
It is often age-related although it can develop as a result of previous steroid use, trauma, previous ocular surgery or previous intraocular inflammation.
Cataract surgery is performed through micro-incision phacoemulsification.
The technique we use to remove cataract involves a microinsicional wound of 1.8 mm through which the cataract is broken down using ultrasound and aspirated out of the eye.
A lens implant is then injected through the incision.
The power of the lens implant is carefully calculated to suit each individual in order to achieve a good focus for distance following surgery.
